The problem with curly hair…
Up until around a year ago, I hated having curly hair.
When you think of curly hair, you probably imagine thick, bouncy curls but mine rarely looked like that, in fact, my hair was typically dry, frizzy and hard to manage.
Even when I straightened it I felt my hair was a lot thicker and frizzier than most people’s, which was really frustrating!
I’ve tried countless products that claim to enhance and nourish curls, and I now feel like I’ve built up a ‘hair wardrobe’ that truly does that.
No longer do I hate my curls, in fact, I wear my hair curly most of the time now and I LOVE IT!
I’m sure there’s lots of you out there who struggle to find products that actually work, so I thought I would share a few that work for me – whether I’m wearing my hair curly or straight.
Shampooing and Conditioning
I’m sure I’ve raved about these on my blog before and honestly, nothing compares to them.
Being oil-based, I find these really nourish my curls and leave my hair feeling baby soft and looking shiny.
Even better, you can get your hands on them quite easily from Boots or Superdrug and they’re really affordable.
I’ve also tried, and loved, the Garnier Sleek Restorer shampoo and conditioner and often pick them up if I can’t find my L’Oreal favourites.
Embracing the curls
Hair oil is a must for me, without it I’m sure my hair would look much drier post-washing.
I like to work 3-4 pumps of the Garnier Sleek Perfector oil into my hair after towel drying it and as well as keeping my hair soft, it smells amazing!
I also like to spritz my hair with the System Professional Colour Save Bi-phase Conditioner* if I’m going to be wearing it curly. The leave-in conditioner really helps to define my curls and keep them looking perfect all day.
As much as I love my curls, sometimes wearing my hair straight makes it so much easier to style. When I straighten my hair, I’ll normally leave it for 3-4 days before washing it again, which really cuts down my morning routine!
Before I begin blow drying my hair, I like to work a pea-sized amount of the Lee Stafford Blow and Go* lotion into my hair. The lotion smells incredible and I’ve noticed my hair feels a lot sleeker and light when I use it.
I also like to use the L’Oreal Sleek It cream while blow drying. I find it works amazingly as a heat protectant and helps to give me the sleekest finish possible when blow drying and straightening my hair.
I hope you’ve enjoyed having a peek into my hair care routine and you’ve added a couple of my favourites to your shopping list! Please do let me know which products you love using, it’s always good to find new things to try…
